The AirGigs Creator Report: Weekly Music Industry News & Opportunities – Week 5
Welcome to Week 5 of the AirGigs Creator Report – where each week, we bring you key updates from across the music industry, including platform changes, technology developments, royalty news, and trends that matter to independent musicians, producers, and creators.
Roland Launches AI Melody Tool “Melody Flip”
Instrument giant Roland has introduced Melody Flip, a new AI-powered plugin developed in collaboration with Sony Computer Science Laboratories. Rather than generating full songs, the tool is designed to act as a creative partner, offering melodic suggestions based on imported audio.
By analyzing elements like key, tempo, chord progression, structure, and mood, Melody Flip matches tracks to a library of over 300 “creative palettes,” generating ideas for melodies, chords, basslines, and more. Producers can then edit, reshape, or completely transform these ideas, with outputs available in both audio and MIDI formats.
Roland emphasizes that the tool is built to support the creative process, not replace it — positioning AI as a collaborator that enhances human instinct rather than automating it entirely. A free trial is expected to launch in May 2026 via Roland Cloud.
Why This Matters:
This is a clear shift toward human-first AI tools – designed to assist rather than replace musicians. For producers, it reinforces the growing role of AI as a creative companion, not a shortcut, keeping artistic control firmly in human hands.
AudioSalad Appoints Head of Commercial Marketing
Music technology company AudioSalad has named Björn Sandberg as its first-ever Head of Commercial Marketing, signaling a stronger push into artist and label growth services. Based in London, Sandberg will lead initiatives focused on audience development and streaming strategy, working directly with AudioSalad’s global client base.
Sandberg brings significant experience from Domino Records, where he led streaming strategy for major acts including Arctic Monkeys and Wet Leg. With a background spanning A&R, artist management, and digital distribution, his appointment reflects AudioSalad’s continued expansion following its acquisition by SESAC and a series of international partnerships.
The move highlights AudioSalad’s focus on building more robust tools and services to support artists and labels navigating an increasingly complex digital landscape.
Why This Matters:
As streaming becomes more competitive, companies like AudioSalad are investing heavily in marketing intelligence and audience growth. For independent artists, this reinforces the importance of strategy — not just distribution — when it comes to building a sustainable career.
ROSTR Rebuilds Platform Around Data & Connectivity
Music industry networking platform ROSTR has launched a major overhaul with the release of ROSTR 2.0, bringing its previously separate tools into one unified system. The updated platform now combines industry contacts, job listings, artist analytics, directories, and news into a single, streamlined experience.
Alongside a redesigned interface and improved usability, ROSTR has significantly expanded its database, now tracking over 563,000 music industry professionals and serving more than 120,000 monthly users. The relaunch reflects a broader industry shift toward data-driven infrastructure, as artists and teams increasingly rely on connected insights to make decisions around hiring, partnerships, and growth.
By centralizing access to industry intelligence, ROSTR aims to make the music business more accessible and navigable — particularly for those operating outside traditional networks.
Why This Matters:
As the industry becomes more complex (and more data-driven), access to the right information is becoming a competitive advantage. For independent artists, tools like ROSTR can help level the playing field, reducing reliance on gatekeepers and opening up new opportunities for connection and growth.
Native Instruments Releases Electric Sunburst Deluxe Guitar Plugin
Native Instruments has expanded its Session Guitarist series with Electric Sunburst Deluxe, a virtual instrument designed to deliver the sound and feel of a classic electric guitar within a fully customizable digital environment.
Built for Kontakt and Kontakt Player, the plugin features over 230 picked and strummed patterns alongside 50+ song presets, allowing producers to quickly build realistic guitar parts or craft performances note-by-note. With a wide range of articulations, humanization controls, and studio-grade amps, effects, and mic setups, users can shape detailed, expressive guitar tones across genres like pop, blues, and jazz.
Performed and recorded by professional session players, Electric Sunburst Deluxe aims to bridge the gap between programmed and live guitar, offering producers a flexible and authentic-sounding alternative when a real guitarist isn’t available.
Why This Matters:
High-quality virtual instruments continue to close the gap between real and programmed performances. For creators, this means faster workflows and greater accessibility – but also raises the bar for what “in-the-box” production can achieve.
