A Studio Professional’s Guide to Content Creation

Content creation has become an essential part of any marketing strategy—especially for musicians and studio professionals looking to grow their audience. In today’s digital landscape, you have the power to reach anyone, anywhere, at any time. That’s incredibly empowering—but it can also feel overwhelming.

As a studio professional, your work often happens behind the scenes—but in today’s creator economy, your role is more visible (and valuable) than ever. Whether you’re an engineer, producer, session musician, or mixing specialist, content creation gives you the chance to showcase your skills, share your process, and build trust with potential clients.

People don’t just want to hear polished tracks—they want to see how they’re made, who made them, and what the vibe is like behind the scenes. Sharing your knowledge, your workspace, or even small moments from your sessions can help you stand out in a crowded industry.

You don’t need a massive following or expensive gear to start. You just need to show up with authenticity and consistency.

What Kind of Content Should You Create?

One of the biggest roadblocks for studio professionals getting into content creation is not knowing what to post. The good news? You don’t need to reinvent the wheel—you just need to highlight what you already do.

Here are a few simple content ideas to get you started:

  • Behind-the-scenes footage: Share a quick video of your recording setup or a time-lapse of you mixing a track.

  • Before and after clips: Showcase the transformation of a rough take into a polished final mix.

  • Tips and tricks: Short posts on plugins you love, workflow hacks, or common recording mistakes you help artists avoid.

  • Client spotlights: If your clients are cool with it, feature snippets from sessions or finished songs (this also helps promote their work).

  • Your story: People love to know who they’re working with. Sharing how you got into the industry or what inspires you can create connection and trust.

Remember, content doesn’t have to be “perfect”—it just has to be real.

Post More of What They Love
The algorithm favors content that drives engagement, so it’s worth taking the time to understand what your audience enjoys. I spent about three months road testing different types of posts—video clips, reels, photos, and more. It quickly became clear what kind of content resonated most with my followers. Once I understood this, I focused on creating more of what people wanted, and it worked.

Volume Over Perfection

Many of my friends are so caught up in the false idea that their content needs to be perfect that they end up posting nothing at all. But in 2025, it’s clear that videos don’t need to be flawlessly edited to grab attention. In fact, many viral videos are far from perfect.

Don’t let the fear of perfection stop you from sharing. Your content doesn’t have to be flawless. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my time online, it’s that people crave authenticity. Even simple videos filmed on a phone can make someone feel like they’re seeing the real you. Take advantage of this. You have the opportunity to connect with people in a fun and authentic way, AND without all the editing work, you can upload content significantly quickly.

Mix It Up

Creating a variety of content—whether it’s videos, photos, text, or even behind-the-scenes glimpses—can help you reach a much broader audience. Mixing things up not only keeps your content fresh and interesting, but it also boosts engagement by appealing to different types of followers. People consume content in various ways, so giving them options will increase your chances of connecting.

Don’t Tell Them – SHOW Them!

Instead of telling people about the services you offer, SHOW them. Upload videos of you in your natural environment. Showing people what you can do is significantly more powerful than telling them. Show people you’re working in your recording space. Include content that shows you tracking instruments or mixing a track. Whatever it is that you do, SHOW people!

A Day in the Life
You have to remember that there are many people who have no idea what it’s like to be a working professional in the music business. More and more creatives are posting behind the scenes / a day in the life videos to really show people what life is like for them. These types of videos help strengthen the connection between you and your audience as well as helping them get to know you.

Branding and Creating Community

You have the power to create not only fun, insightful and inspiring content, but you also get to be the leader of a community that is centered around the world you have created.

Having strong values (or brand) can help you connect with your target audience.

Define your values by asking yourself:

  • What do I stand for?
  • What type of people am I wanting to attract?

Also think about the musicians, artists and engineers who have inspired you over the years. What drew you to their work?

People Invest in People

Remember this: people are more likely to work with you if they like you. Humans tend to invest in people over products. If you can connect with others through kindness, authenticity, and expertise, selling your services will feel effortless. Share posts that give followers a glimpse into who YOU are, and make them feel that you’re approachable, trustworthy, and easy to work with.

Create FOMO

Create a sense of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) by showing people why they’ll regret not working with you. What sets you apart as the best person for the job? How will their lives improve by hiring you? Again, show them, don’t just tell them. Post videos, share exclusive moments, and give them a reason to want to connect with you—and pay for your services.

#Hashtags

As far as hashtags go, less is definitely more. Use between 3-5 for each post and try to avoid using the same hashtag for multiple posts. If you use the same hashtag over and over the algorithm will interoperate this as spam and your reach will be significantly less.

Tag Companies

Be sure to follow and tag any instrument or gear manufactures who feature in your videos. Many of these companies are happy to share the love and repost your content. This can result in free exposure to a much larger group of people who will most likely want to find out more about you.

How to Stay Consistent Without Burning Out

Consistency is key in content creation—but so is your well-being. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you need to post every day, create super polished videos, or chase trends nonstop. The truth? Quality and sustainability matter more than quantity.

Here are a few tips to stay consistent without burning out:

  • Start small: Instead of trying to post daily, aim for one or two solid pieces of content per week. Once you find your rhythm, you can scale up.

  • Batch your content: Record or create multiple pieces of content in one sitting, then schedule them throughout the week. This saves time and keeps your feed active even when you’re busy in the studio.

  • Reuse and repurpose: Turn a longer video into several clips or pull quotes from a blog post to use as captions. One piece of content can go a long way.

  • Make it part of your routine: Set aside a specific day or time each week for content creation. Treat it like any other session or project—it’s an investment in your visibility.

  • Forgive imperfection: Done is better than perfect. Your content doesn’t have to be cinematic to be effective. Let authenticity lead.

Most importantly, remember that consistency doesn’t mean constant. Take breaks when needed, and don’t be afraid to pause, recalibrate, and come back refreshed.

Tools and Apps to Make Content Creation Easier

You don’t need a full production team to create great content—just a few handy tools can make a huge difference. Here are some go-to apps and tools studio professionals swear by:

For Filming & Editing

  • CapCut (mobile/desktop): A powerful, easy-to-use video editor with great transitions, subtitles, and effects—perfect for reels and short-form content.

  • InShot: Another user-friendly video editor for trimming clips, adding music, and resizing for different platforms.

  • LumaFusion (iOS): A more advanced mobile video editor if you want extra control.

For Graphics & Thumbnails

  • Canva: Design engaging thumbnails, quotes, or social media posts. Tons of templates that look clean and professional.

  • Adobe Express: Similar to Canva, but with Adobe’s ecosystem—great for creating quick visuals or branded templates.

For Planning & Scheduling

  • Later, Buffer, or Planoly: Schedule your posts ahead of time, so you can set it and forget it.

  • Notion or Trello: Organize your content ideas, keep a content calendar, or track your goals.

Bonus Tools for Audio Creators

  • Descript: Transcribes your videos and lets you edit audio like a Word doc. Great for turning studio sessions into snappy educational clips.

  • Anchor (now Spotify for Podcasters): If you’re thinking about starting a podcast to share insights or interviews.

You don’t need all of these—pick one or two that fit your workflow and build from there.

As a studio professional, you already have what most people are trying to fake: real experience, real talent, and real stories to tell. Start simple, stay consistent, and remember—your authenticity is your superpower. The more you share, the more chances people have to connect with you and your work.

So grab your phone, hit record, and let people in on what you do best.
